Excellent DVD player – highly recommend
We have a 2 1/2 year old that has taken this DVD player on many many road trips and plane flights. The quality is amazing. This dvd player has been dropped, thrown and had food/drinks spilled on it and has held up better than we could have expected. I am very impressed with the picture quality and sound quality this dvdplayer has to offer. would purchase this one again without a doubt.

Couldn’t be happier…..
This is my first portable DVD player– I have resisted this particular gadget for a while now, but a really good deal at Amazon pushed me over the edge. I am VERY suprised and pleased with the picture quality as well as extra features mentioned by other reviewers here. The sound quality is fine, to me, and a headset would cover situations where external noise is a problem. This is a neat little gadget which I am sure I will enjoy for a while to come. Can’t imagine getting a whole lot more for more $$$$.

Not loud enough.
We bought this DVD player to use in the car with the kids (we log thousands of traveling miles per year). Unfortunately, as other reviewers have mentioned, the audio volume is not loud enough for this purpose. At max volume setting, it just barely competes with road/tire noise. This is an unforgivable limitation for a portable unit, I’m afraid, so much so that I am compelled to deduct 2 stars for this issue alone.

Otherwise, this unit excels in video quality, usability, and convenience. These features deserve a 5-star rating, but have been severely handicapped by substandard audio reproduction. LG, fix this issue, the rest of the player deserves better.

This is a very nice player, clear picture, and easily accessed functions. Has a nice-sized viewing screen also. Would definitely buy this one again!

Awesome customer service
Bought this dvd player a little less than a year ago. A few weeks ago it quit on me. I called LG and a real person actually answered the phone. Instructed me to send it back with $45 since it was out of warranty and they would replace the whole machine for free and send me a new one. I called today to make sure it got there, again, got a real live person’s voicemail, left a message thinking I would have to call again in a few days, and a few hours later, a very nice lady called me. My player was on back order but she said if I wanted to wait a few more days she’d send me a newer version with a bigger screen for free. It’s so rare today to find good customer service from an electronics company. I’m an LG fan!

Great Picture, Miserable Audio Volume
This DVD player was purchased to use in our vehicle on long trips. The picture is great! But if you want to use this DVD Player in a vehicle, the volume is not loud enough to hear oven minor background noise. Even with headphones attached to the unit, audio is barely audible.

LG tech support says this unit was designed to be used at home, not in a car. Why advertise it as portable then? I assumed portable meant you could use it anywhere. Evidently not.

If you want a truly portable device, I would look elsewhere.

Floor Attachment review
This product works very well. I have to set it on the high setting vice the low one as the suction power makes it hard to move across my wood floors. It is very effective on the high setting and makes it easy to get under most furniture pieces with the exception of very low clearance items. Essentially gives you the capability of a canister with an upright. Good product, fits with the dyson slim with the included adapters.

All I can say is my housekeeper loves it. She says it does a terrific job on both the carpets and hardwood floors. When she is happy I am happy. Regards. WS

I purchased this product because I didn’t like lying on the floor to do under my king size bed and it works great. I feel it should have been included in the price of the sweeper because Dyson’s are expensive and to spend another 50.00 dollars is a little steep. Linda

Here’s what I like about this camcorder:

– Takes HD video (720p) in 16:9 ratio, picture is very sharp especially when viewed on a computer screen or LCD TV.
– Super sleek and easy to carry in a pocket or small purse. Weighs only 3.3 ounces and is 50% slimmer than the earlier Ultra series Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (Black). And Mino also has 4GB capacity compared to 2GB of Ultra – although both take 60 minutes of video
– Controls are super-easy, really child’s play. A simple press of the big red button records video. The +/- signs operate the digital zoom and the left/right arrows scroll through videos. Touching the trash can button deletes a video. That’s it!
– Good performance in low light – although one wishes for some sort of extra light source sometimes, this camcorder performs above average in low light
– Sound is good especially given the size. The sound syncs well with the picture too. The videos I shoot with my digital camera sometimes go out of sync but not with the flip.
– Easily charged through your computer, has a Li-ion battery as opposed to the Flip Ultra that used 2 AA batteries
– Creates MP4 video with good compression so the files are not huge, easy to load files into youtube or your computer. The upload feature seems to be faster than the previous Flip Ultra. Video uploads can be slow but Flip seems to make good time with its H.264 video and AAC sound compression which is stored as a MP4 file.
– Software drivers are on the camcorder drive so you’re good to go with any PC or MAC
– Included Flipware can be used to edit/share/organize video files. I don’t use it though, I just drag and drop the files to my computer, so easy
– The camera is smooth and sleek and self-contained which makes it fairly rugged compared to the super sensitive traditional camcorders.
–Comes with a basic soft carrying pouch although you may prefer to buy a separate case.

Here’s what I don’t like:

– Zoom is limited at 2X digital zoom. It’s great for making videos of people right in front of you but if you’re trying to record a performance from a distance prepare to be disappointed.
– Given basic controls it’s also difficult to zoom in as smoothly as my Sony MiniDV camcorder to capture people’s facial expressions without noticeable camera shake and repositioning. I find Flip is best for mostly fixed focus videos.
– Due to higher definition video, camera shake can also be more pronounced. A tripod or putting the camera on a flat surface will help minimize shake.
– Li-ion battery replacement is only available through the Flip Support as of now, the earlier Ultra series used the widely available AA batteries
– The 1.5″ screen makes it difficult to see what you’re recording at times. Since there is no tilt like traditional camcorders it is also not possible to hold the camera over your head and shoot something. Although FLIP says the screen is trans-reflective, it can be hard to see in bright sunlight.

Overall, I like this camcorder for its super sharp videos and ease of use. A high end camcorder may be nice for very special occasions but it’s not possible to carry my bigger camcorder at all times. This camcorder is easy to take everywhere and takes videos with better resolution and smaller file sizes than any digital camera with the video function. It makes it that much easier to upload and share these videos with your friends and family.

I have found myself capturing more moments on video since I started using the Flip camcorders. These moments would have never got on video if I did not have the Flip camcorder which I could pull out and turn on in a few seconds!

Great little camera
Just got this little camera today. Great video quality and good sound.
The video is very good in dim light. Really like the size, you can take it anywhere. Bought it for upcoming vacation.

Score!
There are no more excuses for missing the moment. This camera isn’t designed for producing major motion pictures, but it does a terrific job of being available, while being ridiculously easy to use. It will be tossed into the purse for recording moments at gatherings.

I would say that the “HD” designation is mildly exagerrated, but the picture quality is better than what I get from the Sony miniDV Handicam (which does a nice job), but with far less aggravation when it comes to importing and viewing. And I have never thrown the miniDV into my purse to capture a moment at a gathering. This Flip MinoHD, I doubt if I’ll ever leave home without it.

Auto-focus is first-rate. It automatically adjusts for lighting conditions and does a good job in dim light. The sound quality is not exceptional, but it isn’t exceptional on any home video camera I’ve ever used, either. Still, it picked up my granddaughter’s voice from across the yard without distortion. I haven’t tried to edit the video yet, but the included software is straightforward when it comes to storing and viewing videos. The camera also comes with a cord to connect to your TV.

It is what it is and at a very reasonable price. This thing…this is truly a score. Oooo oooo, I have to get a DryPak so I can use it in the pool…!

UPDATE:
A potential customer asked a question in the discussion area. I answered, but include it here as well in case others are curious, too. The question — how does the video compare between TV or HDTV, and a computer monitor.

I tried four different screens — a 42″ plasma flatscreen, a 42″ lcd flatscreen, a regular old-style TV and an lcd computer monitor.

The old-style TV, I wasn’t surprised, was “grainy,” to use an old-fashioned term. The plasma was disappointing. The particular model I own didn’t allow me to shrink the video to its natural size, so the picture was blown up edge to edge and that caused the picture to degrade. (DVDs on that TV are great, by the way.) Your plasma might operate differently and therefore, offer better results.

The lcd TV allowed viewing the videos at natural (large) size, best quality of all, although even full size it looked great. And the computer monitor was great, too.

If your potential gift recipient is a casual videographer as most of us are, they won’t be disappointed. Fancy themselves as the next Baz Luhrmann and the Flip will promptly find itself on the return pile.

Magellan 4250 refurbished
This was my first GPS ever purchased. It was a gift for my wife. The unit kept freezing and rebooting both when using different functions and when it was sitting idle. Returned it for a refund. Shouldn’t have gone the refurb route.

Five star plus
Have used this product heavily since purchasing and it has done everything perfectly- as advertised. This was a replacement for a Magellan Roadmate 700(North America). I feel as if I made a perfect purchase in buying this product. Quite frankly, I didn’t pay enough for it. Wonderful deal and product. The only negative may be the bluetooth feature, but that was not an important part of my reasoning to buy it.

The Magellen RoadMate 1412 is very easy to operate and extremely accurate. A reliable product at an affordable price.

The good and not so good…
After extensive review of lower end gps units with text to speech capability, I purchased this unit. I returned the unit less than one week later after extensive testing in locations I knew well.

It has numerous good points, a few are clear and loud voice, good visibility screen, adjustable voice from main screen, good window mount, prompt return email from customer service, maps remarkably tracked what were basically gravel trails and logging roads near and just off of the North Shore Drive of Minnesota, auto change to night mode on screen, ability to drag the map from the screen to see what’s ahead in each direction without zooming out, favorites for locations.

A negative was the POI’s were not available for stops that were present in the location of interest, ie, coffee shop in the area wouldn’t show up even though there was one in the area. Though that’s not what I purchased the unit for.

I obviously did purchase the unit for directions. That’s where it repeatedly failed, regardless of which of the four options were chosen, fastest route, shortest route, etc. The unit failed most every time I used the device for navigation. It continually chose indirect, more time consuming and undesirable routes to destinations. I wanted to keep the unit. However, it’s a somewhat expensive gps purchase not to be able to use the navigation feature. Maybe the 1412 would perform better in other areas of the country?

Doesn’t power up
After a couple months and rarely used I can’t power it up. I have charged it up for 4 hrs. and nothing. Can someone advise?

Better than expected
My wife and I got in the habit of using netflix’s streaming service. I just got tired of hooking up my laptop to the plasma everytime we wanted to stream. Then I saw this on LG on the netflix website. It seemed like the perfect solution as I was looking for a blu-ray player for the living room anyway. And it was!! I have now owned it for 4 weeks.

Love the easy setup. It took literally 5-10 minutes before it was hooked up and streaming netflix. The blu-ray player is exceptional. I am comparing it with my PS3 which I love as well and it is as fast if not faster at loading blu-ray discs. The quality of dvd’s is truly exceptional via the hdmi. The remote control is easy to use- even my wife who is technically challenged loves it and uses it frequently with no issues. The streaming quality is good- looks like really good SD signal, but it is fine for watching and really convenient. Once you add shows or movies to your watch it now queue online they will show up on the LG BD300 when you access the netflix from “home.” The setup for the streaming involves hooking up a ethernet cable to the back of the player and putting in a code from your pc where the player tells you to (it gives you simple directions in the set up including the web address to get the code). Point being they have made it real easy for just about anyone to hook up and use this baby.
The only cons I can think of is it has no wireless solution and there are no real attachment cables worth anything in the box. You will need your own hdmi cable, ethernet and whatever else you need for your system. But those are minor as the pricing is still pretyy competitive for what the player does and is does it all very well.

Problem with reaching Netflix
I noted one other person had difficulty reaching Netflix, but no one else complained. After hooking the box up, there was a “mandatory” software update that went fine, however at the Netflix authentication, the system did not “see” an internet connection (even though it had just downloaded software) I called LG and after some stumbling around, they admitted they had a known problem but hoped to have it fixed in a few days. The mystery is why just apparently a couple of us have a problem and not everyone.

Netflix was also called, and they had not heard of any issues, but promised to look into it.

One other thing. After trying unsuccessfully to tie into my wireless network with a remote access device, I gave up and went to a Netgear wall plug solution and was up and running in about five minutes. Their are only two issues that I see (potentially) with this.

First, it has to be plugged right into the wall, and we do have power surges, so that will be interesting to see what happens.

Second, others have commented elsewhere, that the units “burn-out” in a few weeks. Not many had this issue, but enough did to make me wonder

Early Review
Just got the BD300 last night. Overall, it’s a great unit. However, I still can’t get connected to Netflix. Let me start by saying that the picture quality is terrific. I have it connected to my 26 inch Sony Wega LCD (a bigger TV is on my Christmas list) via component cables and digital coaxial for audio. Everything is running through my Onkyo receiver. I’m getting 1080i with full digital audio, and it is fantastic. My wife and I watched I Am Legend on blu-ray and noticed a big improvement over our old DVD player instantly.

The remote is light weight and well laid out. Navigating the on screen menu is easy and intuitive. The unit itself looks very elegant. It took only 3 seconds to load the blu-ray disc. Very nice.

It looks like I’m going to have to talk to tech support because the unit says I’m not connected to the internet. I’ve got an ethernet cable running from my Linksys ethernet hub to the unit. All of the computers in the house are connected to the same router via the hub and they can get on the internet, so I don’t know what’s wrong. As you can see by the other reviewers, the Netflix service does work, and it works well. Just not for me right now.

I’ll update this review as soon as I can get on Netflix, but for now the blu-ray player is exactly what I was wanting.

The Best Shaver I have ever owned
I am 65 years old and have owned several electric shavers throughout my life but this is by far the best ever. I’ve had Schick’s and Braun’s and they have always given me a burn and I was not satisfied with the closeness of the shave. I have owned several older Norelco’s, and with the floating heads they were comfortable, but still electric shaving wasn’t close enough especially for formal outing, but I would use it for work. Over the years my batteries became weak so I decided to upgrade to the 8140xl. What a difference! Light as a feather, great improvement in the floating heads, comfortable enough to make shaving a delight, and a much closer shave. The water cleaning (though I still Prefer the old fashion way & clean with a brush), charging stand, looks and feel etc. are all additional perks, but the real quality in this machine is the close shave and comfort of use. Hats off to you Philips, I have no idea of how you can improve upon this shaver. Also, have been using it now for almost two weeks on a single charge and still going. Fantastic!!

Still have to improve, but is better than I expected
I hope some day eletric shavers will be as good as regular blades, but I have to be honest that this Philips Norelco 8140XL was better than I expected. No irritation of the skin, time gain (I shave in the car), fast battery recharge (it lasts for an hour or so) and, above all, clean face are the topics that made me really like it.

Good Shaver
I have had another norelco for years. The blades have worn out and buying a new razor is almost the same cost as replacing the head so I got the 8140. Noreclos still work much better than other electrics. Have not had a bad one yet.

Crisp, clear sound resonating through my apartment
I had no idea sound could be this good. I purchased this unit as an upgrade to a Dolby Prologic unit made by Pioneer (which still sounds great after more than a decade of dedicated use). I’ve connected this unit to a BDP-S350 blue ray player and a KDL-40W4100 HDTV. All I can say is wow. The 5.1 channel audio comes out great and really immerses the viewer into the movie scene. I’m sure that I’ll be hated by the other apartment units adjacent to my own. There are so many options available for audio playback. The only drawback I see is the speaker wire, which oddly enough,is also a benefit somewhat. The speaker wires, of course, are of fixed length. The problem is that Sony has made wire connection to the receiver a specific design. Now this design makes it easier and more managable to install the speaker units into the receiver (the benefit). However, this also requires the owner to purchase additional wire (or new wire)if needed from Sony (smart, and greedy). Other than that, I’m very happy.

Great entry level Home theater setup…
Well, i have to say that i was pretty impressed by this HTIB. It’s affordable and if you own a PS3 or a BD player that can internally decode TrueHD and DTS-HD you’ll be all set! That was the most important feature for me. I wanted to be able to enjoy my Blu-ray movies and the HD surround sound they are capable of and this system does just that! I also didn’t have the space for a full sized receiver in my tv stand so the slim design was a perfect fit. After tweaking some settings i got this system sounding the way i wanted. I bought a pair of speaker stands for the front speakers because of my living room layout. Overall it’s a good sounding system and looks great too. It has more then enough power to shake my small 13.5 x 12 apartment living room.
